Volapuk: a dying artificial language

28 February 2008
On 28 February, RTL broadcast an interview with Dr. Sergio Meira about the artificial language Volapuk. The interview was recorded in Leiden University Library in an episode of the programme '[4] in het Land'. Meira is a linguist teaching at Leiden University. He is one of about 30 people world-wide who is fluent in Volapuk.
The RTL report suggests that 'even in Leiden University Library no books about Volapuk can be found', yet nothing is further from the truth. It was here that Meira first came in contact with Volapuk and discovered even more information about the language and its history. In our catalogue (U-CAT) you can find more information about this subject by searching on 'Volapuk'.
The RTL report can be found on the website of '[4] in het land' (available in Dutch).
