Scaliger professor

With effect from 1 November 2007, the Scaliger chair is held by prof. Dr H. Beukers. Prof. Beukers was professor by special appointment of the Leids Universitair Fonds for the subject history of medicine. His field of interest was the interaction between medicine of the West and that of Japan.

During the term of the Scaliger professor, he or she will give an inaugural lecture in the Groot Auditorium of the Academiegebouw (University Hall). This lecture will be published in a cycle of Scaliger lectures.


The Scaliger chair was held until 7 June 2007 by prof. Dr W. P. Gerritsen, who specialises in Middle Dutch. In addition to the existing chair, the executive board has created the opportunity for a second Scaliger chair.
