Maps and atlases

Introduction

The collection of maps and atlases consists of approximately 60,000 maps, 1,500 atlases and 25,000 topographical prints and drawings. The larger part was bequeathed in 1872 as a legacy of legist J.T. Bodel Nijenhuis. The emphasis lays on 17th- and 18th-century cartography and an important part of the collection are manuscript maps.

Sub Collections

In addition to the Bodel Nijenhuis Collection the collection Maps and Atlases includes several sub collections. The atlases and the maps of the Netherlands and Belgium are catalogued online. The total collection of maps and atlases is catalogued in a card index system. Literature about the collection is also available.
