The greater part of the Social sciences collection is located in the Social and Behavioural Sciences Library. The more recent literature, from circa 1995 onwards, can be found almost exclusively in this library. The University Library also owns tens of thousands of volumes in the social science field, but these concern less recent material. The location of an individual title can be traced in the Catalogue.

The collection is located in the closed stacks ; the Central Library has only a modest social science reference collection (circa 1300 volumes), marked in the catalogue as S.PSY. (Reading room Psychology), S.POL. (Reading room Political science), S.ECO. (Reading room Economics), etc. There is no longer any active collection development by the University Library in the field of social science.
