The year 2011 was a year full of development. That is not a coincidence: a new policy plan started in which the libraries aim to shift their traditional supporting role to a an obvious partner in education and research. Also, thanks to technical progress, we were ready for a new catalogue in the cloud and the introduction of the new university identity card (LU-Card) as a library card for all university libraries and access pass for the University Library.
The year saw successful collaborations with the Library of the Universiteit van Amsterdam and the National library of The Netherlands to make over 2 million pages in 10,000 19th century books in Dutch available online and searchable at word level. And of course there were new collections: databases with access to countless online articles, e-books and other electronic resources and exquisite additions to our special collections thanks to gifts.
But we also pay attention to the smaller happenings: your heartwarming response to our invitation for the letter exhibition, your feedback via social media, our surpising new ways of sharing knowledge internally.
This year, we solely publish a digital annual report. In the text, you can click for more background information, digital presentations of our collections and videos to fire your imagination.
