Start renovation study rooms University Library

As of May, 2012 a major renovation of the study rooms on the first and second floors of the University Library has started. News about the internal moves, relocations of collections and noise pollution will be announced on our renovation weblog .


Part 2 of UB renovation finished

On 10 June 2013 we will open the second part of the redecorated reading rooms on the first floor of the University Library. At the same time, the third and final part will be closed for renovation.


Exhibition: Huygens in Leiden

Both father Constantijn and son Christiaan Huygens studied at Leiden University. Trace their footsteps in Leiden at the exhibition ‘Huygens in Leiden’, in honour of Huygens Year 2013.

The end of April sees the start of Huygens Year 2013, a unique collaboration between several cultural institutions around the theme of Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens.


Leiden Special Collections in Museum De Lakenhal

Discover Leiden University’s cultural heritage in the exhibition 'WORLD TREASURES! From Cicero to Erwin Olaf', from 9 March in Museum De Lakenhal. You can see the 9th-century codex Aratea, topographic maps from Blaeu, a drawing by Rembrandt, photos by Erwin Olaf and more.


Opening renovated reading rooms

On February 11th, the University Library will open the first part of renovated reading rooms, which offers 250 work places, 16 individual study carrousels, 4 group rooms and a Centre for Researchers.

Rare exhibition Oriental manuscripts

For the first time in a great many years, a magnificent collection of Oriental manuscripts is on public display in 'Turksche Boucken'. This exhibition is a collaboration project between Leiden University and Museum Meermanno, and is on display from 16 December 2012 until 3 March 2013.
