The Sinology collection of the East Asian Library can be divided into two sections: Chinese and Western. Rare and special collections of Chinese books are stored in the Van Gulik Room. The room is named after the Dutch diplomat scholar Robert van Gulik as it contains a large part of his personal collection of rare books. The oldest printed books in our library date back to the early 15th century.
Brill's Encyclopedia of China Online is based on the original 1000 page reference work on China (available in the East Asian Library reading room at SINOL. L 10 E 18 ) and has its main focus on China from the mid-19th century to the 21st century.
The East Asian Library now have their own blog with background information on the Chinese, Japanese and Korean collections, detailed information on the most important databases in the field of Asian studies, and lots of other useful and interesting links for our library.
