Brill fellows 2010
Like in 2009 publishing house Brill in Leiden sponsors the appointment of the so called 'Brill Fellows' of the Scaliger Institute. The Brill Fellow does research based on material available from the Special Collections of Leiden University Library; where possible this research is in the field of one of the numerous publishing areas of publishing house Brill in the Humanities.

Visiting Scaliger Professor Déroche
In addition to the existing Scaliger professor chair, the executive board has created the opportunity for a second Scaliger chair. From 5 April -1 May the Scaliger Instite will welcome the second Visiting Scaliger Professor in it's history: Prof. dr. François Déroche.

The Scaliger Institutes welcomes 15-20 fellows and visiting scholars each year. In April and September 2010 the famous historian Lisa Jardine well be a visiting scholar at the Scaliger Institute.

10 years Scaliger Institute 2000-2010
In 2010 the Scaliger Institute will celebrate its tenth anniversary as a special collections research centre at Leiden University Library. The Scaliger Institute was founded by Leiden University Library and the Faculties of Arts, Theology and Philosophy (now the Faculty of Humanities) on the occasion of the 425th anniversary of Leiden University in June 2000.

Brill lecture 2009 by Gilbert Tournoy
On wednesday 21 October at 16.15 a public lecture will be given by the Brill fellow 2009: Prof. dr. Gilbert Tournoy of Leuven University. He will be speaking on the interest of several Humanists from Leuven in the 16th century (Hadrianus Barlandus, Petrus Nannius, Justus Lipsius) related to the Roman historian Titus Livius.

Commemoration Scaliger 1609-2009
On 21 january 2009 the Scaliger Institute will commemorate the 400-years death of the famous French humanist Josephus Justus Scaliger. Scaliger (born in Agen 1540) came to Leiden University in 1593. He never left Leiden again. He died in 1609 and was buried in de Vrouwekerk.

On 4-6 September 2008 a workshop on Carolingian Scholarship and Martianus Capella is jointly organized by the Scaliger Institute in Leiden and the Huygens Institute in Den Haag. Two former Scaliger fellows, Prof. dr. Rosamond McKitterick and dr. Sinead O’Sullivan amongst other speakers, will be giving lectures during the conference.
