Donors

Leiden University Library would like to hear from you if you would like to make a donation or give something on loan.

The collections of Leiden University Library have mainly come into existence by means of donations and bequests from scholars and others that have an interest in the library.
Material donation
Should you wish to make a material donation or give something on loan you can contact the relevant subject librarian or curator. Due to the limited amount of storage space and financial means to accept a donations the subject librarians and curators are forced to apply a number of criterions:

  • Is the donation a useful addition to the existing collection?
  • Does the donation fit into the collection policy of the relevant subject field?
  • What are the additional costs for the library when the donation is accepted. (for instance, costs made for cleaning restauration, special storage and catalogising the material)

In the case that your donation will be accepted, some information will have to be recorded, and agreements need to be reached about the selection, cataloging, placing and availability. If your donation can't be accepted you will be adviced where to find a suitable alternative.
Financial donation
If you want to support the library with a financial donation you can become a Vriend van de Universiteitsbibliotheek (Friend of the University Library) or a Vriend van het Prentenkabinet (Friend of the Print Collection). With your annual contribution you support the expansion and the preservation of the special collections. For a single donation or bequest you can contact the head of the library of your choice.
