Consumption of food and beverages forbidden in University Library

7 June 2006

Over recent weeks, it has been observed that a number of visitors of the University Library consume food and beverages in the reading rooms, resulting in inconvenience for other visitors and an accumulation of litter in public area. This has led to complaints.
The University Library wishes to guarantee a quiet and clean study and working environment. Visitors to the University Library are kindly asked to co-operate and to respect the house rules.
Reminder:

  • Visitors consuming food and/or beverages in public ereas of the University Library, will be adviced of the houserules and will be asked to consume food in the coffee area/lunchroom or outside. It is not allowed to have meals delivered to the University Library or to consume these in the coffee area/lunchroom.
  • Rubbish should be disposed of in the rubbish bins available in the coffee area/lunchroom, or in the rubbish bins outside.
  • Loud behaviour will not be tolerated, and noisy individuals will be requested to leave the room.
  • You are allowed to bring a bottle of water into the general reading rooms.
As from 12 June 2006 the following measures will be in place:

  • When entering the University Library, a check will be made that no food and/or beverages are taken into the Library. Reception desk staff will check book baskets.
  • During the Library's opening hours there will be more supervision by staff from the University Library and the University General and Technical Services ('UFB'). Transgression of the house rules will result in a serious reprimand.
  • It is not permitted to take coats and bags into the library.
The Board of the University Library considers it necessary to take these measures to ensure visitors of a quiet and clean work and study environment. We thank you for your cooperation.
